I hope the audio script goes well. I’m adrift with my writing at the moment having recently finished my sitcom podcast. I’ve not had any time for other writing for so long, I’m not really sure what to do now!

Thanks, Jacqueline!

Did you produce your podcast, or was it a writing project? I'm spending some time learning about production so curious to know what your experience has been.

I hope you start to feel less adrift soon. Sometimes, we just need a break between projects.

I did produce it, you might have seen James Cary mention it recently - Lee-Ann’s Spare Fridays. I had done some audio editing before, and I don’t know whether my physics degree helped or not but it at least meant I wasn’t baffled by waveforms etc. I wrote a post about putting it together, I’ll dig out the link but if you have questions I’m happy to try and help. DM me if you like.

I have decided to focus on finishing a comic novel next so I’m doing better now thanks.

Gave your first episode a listen and really liked it! Looking forward to finding the time to listen to the rest of it!

I love that stage 1 is to read up on bats. I look forward to reading (or hearing) what you produce when you get to stage 5.

I have also recently tried to write for audio and found it to be a fun challenge to work within the creative constraints and take advantage of the freedom of the medium.

I've been told, not incorrectly, that when one gets stuck always go back to character. But in my case, I need to always go back to the science. I don't want to make the science front-and-centre, but each character needs to be doing something that makes sense. I don't want Fieldwork to be the podcast equivalent to one of those awful stock photos of women in pristine lab coats looking vacantly at some coloured liquid in a test tube. Almost no real scientists do that!! So yes, back to the science I go.

And I'm hoping that I can crack writing for audio, given I am not really an auditory person – I tend to drift off when listening to audiobooks!
