Love that you call out the harm of "just write." After a career based in science and math, I needed to refresh my knowledge of grammar and story, and became a much more confident writer after revisiting the basics. Also, I found it surprisingly uplifting to realize I already understood the concepts, and had simply forgotten (or never knew) the terminology used to describe them.

Thanks, Lancy! As an ex-science person myself, I know how hard it can be to switch focus, so well done for finding the right route for you. So much of writing is figuring out what works for you, and that may well not be what works for other people. It's all so individual, and it's a long, but hopefully enjoyable, journey of reflection and self-discovery to develop a healthy and productive writing process.

I just finished reading the Will Storr book following this post - exceptionally good! It has transformed my approach to my latest work - thanks so much for the recommendation - really appreciate that!
