Love this! Lots of useful ideas, and the feeling of despondency you describe totally resonates. I keep a stash of random word generator sites, or I'll ask ChatGPT to give me a random name and object and will write some description of said character and object. And if you're really out of ideas, I have some writing prompts on my blog (https://www.galpod.com/blog-1/categories/writing-prompts) do let me know if any are useful! :)

Break out pen and paper is my favourite. I started writing before I had access to a computer. This has always been (and will always be) my way to write and it helps me quite a bit when I am low on ideas :) This is a great read, thank you for sharing :)

Thank you!! And yes, pen and paper is one of my favourites too. I could never go fully paperless – it's too important to have a nice, crisp sheet of paper to scribble on.

If I can't write, I record myself talking to anyone about anything, whether they are there or not.

I love that idea! Sometimes, you just have to sort of break the surface tension, and then it all flows.

Great post! 👏👏

I love the idea of simply changing the font of your draft document!

I think I’m going to go for an elaborate script next time… and bizarrely I’m already excited to do it! 👏👏😃

Thanks, Kate!

I love the font change trick and have used it a lot in the past. Sometimes I really push the boat out and change the font colour too!
